Google recently released their newest phone line, the Pixel. Officially killing the Nexus line. Google is trying to compete with Apple and their iPhone line. Let’s talk about the features on the Pixel and what makes it the pixel:

  • 1080p by 1920p AMOLED display
  • Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 2,770 mAh battery on the 5-inch display
  • Android 7.1 (Nougat)
  • 12.3 megapixels for the back camera and 8 megapixels for the front camera

Now let’s look at its competitor, the iPhone 7:

  • 750p by 1334p liquid crystal display
  • A10 quad-core processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 1,960 mAh Battery on the 5-inch display
  • iOS 10.0.1
  • 12 megapixels for the back camera and 7 megapixels for the front camera

Of course, hardware doesn’t always tell the full story, Let’s see some tests on the two phones

  • Water Resistance: The iPhone 7 has a water resistance of IP67, Which means it can survive underwater under low pressure for at least 30 minutes. However, The Pixel does not have an IP rating, but tests have shown that the Pixel can survive underwater for at least 30 minutes, like the iPhone 7.
  • CPU Benchmark Tests: The Google Pixel’s benchmark test was a score of 4176 and the iPhone 7’s Benchmark test had a score of 5532
  • Display: The Pixel’s display can support 1080p streaming and viewing content. The iPhone 7’s Display can only support 720p . However, The screen is brighter to compensate.

The Pixel has been getting mostly positive reviews with critics like The Verge. Who said, “This is Google’s first phone, and for a first effort it is remarkably good. By almost every metric I can think of — speed, power, camera, smart assistant, you name it — it matches or exceeds the best phones available on the market today.” It also got a 4.5/5 star rating from CNET. Most reviewers agree: the Google Pixel is a pretty good phone. However, the iPhone 7 have been getting more underwhelming reviews. Critics like MacWorld and The Verge both seems to agree that the iPhone 7 isn’t a big leap forward. Macworld said this in their review, “iPhone 7 an attractive option, unless you own an iPhone 6s.” However, CNET rates this phone 4.5/5 stars.
